what if you stopped trying to be okay?

there are days when we say we’re fine because it’s easier than telling the truth.

i’m good.

i’m just tired.

it’s been a busy week.

sometimes those things are true.

and sometimes there’s something underneath them that we haven’t allowed ourselves to feel.

maybe you're disappointed maybe you’re lonely. maybe you’re questioning a life you once thought you wanted. maybe you’re simply exhausted from holding everything together.

we get very good at carrying on.

we show up. we get things done. we take care of people. we smile. we make plans.

and then we become so accustomed to functioning that we forget to ask ourselves how we’re actually doing.

not how we’re supposed to be dong.

not how things look from the outside.

how we really are.

being honest with yourself is powerful. you don’t have to turn every feeling into a life lesson and you don’t need to find a silver lining. sometimes you just need to admit:

this is hard for me right now.

that honesty can be a relief. because when we stop pretending we’re okay, we begin to hear what we actually need.

and that’s where something real begins.
