are you saying what you need - or hoping they’ll notice?
how often do you expect someone to know what you need without actually telling them?
you want more attention, but you don’t ask.
you need help, but you keep doing everything yourself.
you want more connection, but you pull away when you’re disappointed.
then resentment starts to build.
the truth is, people can’t always respond to needs they don’t know you have.
expressing a need doesn’t mean making a demand. it means giving someone the opportunity to understand you.
try saying:
I need some help
I’d like more time together
I need you to listen, not fix it
I can’t take that on right now
simple. clear. honest.
and here’s the important part: once you’ve expressed your need, pay attention to what happens next.
do they listen?
do they make an effort?
can they meet the need?
if they can’t or won’t you have information you didn’t have before.
you don’t have to keep hinting, hoping or becoming resentful.
pause. get honest about what you need.
then express it.
