the solstice is the sun’s pause
I love the idea that even the sun pauses.
the word solstice means “sun standing still.” for a brief moment, the sun appears to stop its journey across the sky before slowly changing direction.
think about that.
the force that gives life to the planet, that rises every morning without fail, takes a pause.
yet somehow we’ve convinced ourselves that we shouldn’t.
we live in a culture that celebrates more doing.
but nature doesn’t work that way.
nature moves in cycles. times for growth, times for action, times for harvest and times for rest. the solstice reminds us that pauses are part of life.
and maybe that’s why so many of us feel tired.
not because we’re doing life wrong, but because we've forgotten how to stop.
a pause isn’t about giving up. it’s not falling behind or wasting time.
a pause is where we catch up with who we truly are.
the biggest shifts in my life didn’t happen when I pushed harder. they happened when I paused.
the solstice offers us that same invitation.
to pause. to look around and appreciate how far we’ve come. to ask ourselves whether the direction we’re heading feels aligned in the heart.
the sun isn’t rushing. nature isn’t rushing. maybe we don’t need to rush either.
perhaps the greatest gift of the solstice is the reminder that stillness isn’t empty. it’s full.
full of beauty. full of wisdom, possibility, insight and peace.
so take, take a pause. step outside. feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. and allow yourself to pause.
the sun is doing it. maybe it’s time we did too.
