awareness cannot win or lose

for most of our lives, we are taught to keep score.

we learn to notice who is ahead, who is behind and what we have achieved.

even our inner world can become a place of comparison.

we judge ourselves for being too emotional, too tired, too uncertain or not far enough along. we celebrate when we feel successful and question ourselves when life feels messy.

but something deeper within us does not measure life this way.

awareness.

awareness is the part of us that notices.

it notices the excitement before a new beginning, the sadness when something ends. it notices fear and the relief when we overcome it.

it never labels moments good or bad. it does not decide whether we are winning or losing.

it witnesses what is here and now.

think about a time when life did not go according to plan. something you worked hard for did not unfold the way you expected. at the time, it may have felt like a loss.

but later, you looked back and realized that moment opened a door you never would have chosen yourself.

life has a way of revealing that what we call a loss, a redirection.

and what we call a win is simply experience passing through.

awareness gives us the ability to stay connected to ourselves through all of it.

a mistake does not mean we failed.

a difficult season does not mean we are broken.

a success does not mean we have finally arrived.

this is the human experience.

and when we stop asking “am I winning? or am I losing?” and instead begin asking “am I present?” we start to feel the full range of being human.

to learn. to grow. to love. to witness the unfolding of life that cannot always be predicted.

and it is in the pause, we remember,
